Before the fair:
Setting up your Handshake Profile
- If you haven't already, upload a resume to your profile. Click here to learn how to make your profile more appealing to employers
Tip: After uploading, click the blue button Feature on Profile to make the document public - when you sign up for sessions, this will allow the employer to view your resume!
2. Check out the participating employers and do your research on the companies and their available positions. Once you have taken a look at the available positions and the companies participating, sign up for the available 1:1 or group sessions that the employer has made available.
Tip: If schedule sessions are not created, you will not be able to interact with employers during the fair. Not to worry, you are able to schedule sessions before and during the fair.
During the Fair
- Attend your scheduled sessions. On the day of the virtual fair, you'll be able to join sessions via the Your Schedule tab in the fair or by clicking on the banner within your dashboard. You may attend these session 5 minutes early to troubleshoot any connectivity issues.
Tip: All sessions have the option for video, audio and text based chat. It is at the discretion of you and the participating employer to determine how you would like to connect for the session
2. Dress Professionally and make sure that the area around you is tidy and background noise is at a minimum.
3. Ask questions! You've already done your research and have an idea of the positions that are available, ask relevant questions that are engaging and allow you to stand out amongst all the other candidates!
Once the fair has ended there are a few things you can do to follow up with employers:
- Follow their company profile. By following the employer company profiles you will receive notifications of employer activity, including new job postings!
- Message other students that have worked for the employer or a publicly listed point of contact for the company
- Apply for an active job on the employer page
- Schedule a virtual interview with the employer through Handshake
Tip: You can review who you attended sessions with by navigating back to the fair in Handshake or by using the filter "past fairs" on your profile.
