Employer Information Career Fair 2010

February 19th, 2010 10 AM - 3:30 PM

Towson Center, Towson University

  • Parking Alert

Parking arrangements for this year's fair have changed.  In order to maximize student turnout we offer our career events during peak student hours. Combined with an intense construction schedule, employer parking is no longer available on Towson University’s campus. We have made arrangements for employers to park for free at the parking garage located next to the Towson branch of the Baltimore County Public Library located at 320 York Road, Towson, MD.  Bring your parking ticket to the fair to be validated.  Student workers will be available at both the garage and fair location to help you with your belongings.  Shuttle service will be provided between the fair and the garage.  Additionally, regardless of the number of attending recruiters, we are only able to validate 2 parking passes per booth per company. We strongly encourage carpooling since spaces are not reserved. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Register to Attend

We invite you to attend this fair where you will have the opportunity to talk with students and alumni from 12 colleges and universitites.  Register for this fair at: http://asp.symplicity.com/mdcareerfair. Complete on-line registration and payment must be received by Tuesday, February 2, 2010 to guarantee your space at the Career Fair as well as ensure your inclusion in the Employer Directory. The MCCCF committee reserves the right to accept your registration application.

Cancellations must be made in writing, but cancellations made after February 2, 2010 will not be refunded. The fee for the fair includes an 8x8 booth, continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks for up to four (4) representatives. Companies wishing to bring more than 4 representatives must purchase a second booth, if available.
Fees:
Fair Registration - $575

  • Tips for Employers

We know your time at the fair is important. Our goal is to help you reach the greatest number of students during each visit. To generate interest in your organization and have meaningful conversations with our attendees, we invite you to consider these ideas as you make plans to attend the MCC Career Fair:

Complete your registration form fully, carefully (i.e., avoid misspellings and typos) and according to directions; as what is ultimately shared with students comes directly from the online registration form.

Make a good first impression by making sure whoever is staffing the booth is fully informed and prepared to talk with students about (1) your organization, (2) the position(s) you’re recruiting for, and (3) your hiring procedures/policies.

Consider bringing interesting give-a-ways or creating an exciting display in order to generate interest among candidates.

If you are unable to accept resumes at the Fair, you’ll want to be able to explain (1) why, (2) what the alternate application procedures are, and (3) why it’s still beneficial that students talked with you at the Fair.  Many students seem to question the value of attending these events if they’re repeatedly told to “just apply on our website” and supplying this information is a great way to build and maintain relationships with candidates.

Stand rather than sit at your exhibit.  Don’t wait for students to approach you; consider asking open-ended, yet specific questions (i.e., “Are you interested in an IT career with the country’s leading software manufacturer?”).

Bring business cards and wear a nametag.
Set up your booth on-time (as it’s often the most motivated students who arrive earliest in the day).

Respond to all inquiries personally ASAP after the fair to reinforce your good image and to "strike the iron when it is hot."
